Digital Mobile Multimedia Transmission Technology and System (DMMTTS)

Digital Mobile Multimedia Transmission Technology and System (DMMTTS)

Digital mobile multimedia transmission has been a very exciting topic in the world for years. Since mobile multimedia services have successfully brought many customers the excellent watching experience never realized before from watching analog TV, it is a fast emerging area with huge economic impact.
The terrestrial transmission of digital TV has been developed for years. Right now, there are four digital TV terrestrial broadcasting standards: USA based ATSC (Advanced Television System Committee) standard, Europe based DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial) standard, Japan based ISDB (Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting) standard and China based Digital Television/Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTMB) standard. Recently, as the next generation systems, DVB-T2 and ATSC-M/H have been announced. Moreover, broadcasting networks designed for mobile multimedia like Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld (DVB-H), Terrestrial-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB), Media Forward Link Only (MediaFLO) and China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting (CMMB) are currently under vast deployment. 3G cellular networks are also offering multimedia services to mobile devices like cell phones or PDAs. Combinations of traditional cellular networks and non-cellular broadcasting networks are still under investigation. New services of mobile multimedia transmission will be ready for introducing new forms of interactivity, customization and personalization.
The objective of this workshop is to present the state-of-the-art research results contributing to the digital mobile multimedia transmission. Leading engineers, researchers, and service providers from around the world will meet together to discus the challenges in the application and implementation of broadband mobile multimedia transmission systems.
The workshop is planned to be one day long and 8 papers will be presented including one or two key-note speeches. This activity is also supported by IEEE Broadcast Technology Society (BTS) Beijing Chapter. We plan to invite the senior researcher of the IEEE BTS to give an invited talk on the multimedia broadcasting. We will also invite the leading researchers in the industry or university to present their new research results.
The potential topics of this workshop are (not limited to):
1) Digital TV and mobile multimedia broadcasting systems
2) Standards motivation for digital TV and mobile multimedia transmission
3) Source coding for mobile multimedia
4) Channel coding, modulation & multiplexing, and signal processing
5) Capacity management, coverage, handoff, and QOS issues
6) Network convergence for mobile multimedia services
7) Prototype and field trials on digital mobile multimedia systems
Given some topics may be covered by general symposiums, we will try to put more focus on issues of systems, standards and field trials.
All papers must be submitted through the website: http://vtc2010fall.trackchair.com by Apr. 23.
Acceptance notification will be sent out by May 15
Camera ready paper must be received by Jun. 1

Green Wireless Communications and Networks Workshop (GreeNet)

Wireless communication industry is experiencing a tremendous growth in terms of numbers of users, network throughput, and applications. Importantly, wireless communications have become a crucial part of social infrastructure. While wireless communications is becoming ubiquitous, the energy consumption of wireless devices and networks gradually increases to represent a significant portion of the operational cost, naturally also causing increased equivalent carbon emissions to the environment. Therefore, reducing the energy consumption by several orders of magnitude compared to the current level has become an important requirement for the design of future green wireless networks.

Green communications have recently gained considerable attention. However, their real underlying technology framework is yet to be defined. Illustrating the importance of the problem, significant initiatives are now emerging worldwide. Therefore it is timely to set up forums for researchers and developers to discuss features and exchange ideas on all challenges and solutions for green wireless networks. In addition, it is now essential for mobile communications research to begin looking ahead beyond the fourth-generation (4G) IMT-Advanced.

The GreeNet workshop will be a venue for leading academic and industrial researchers to exchange their views, ideas and research results on innovative technologies and sustainable solutions leading to greener wireless networks. The workshop will feature keynote speakers, a panel discussion and paper presentations. The workshop is an excellent complement to the current scope of the VTC-2010-Fall focusing on wireless technologies for the next decade.
